Roof Restoration & Repairs Templestowe

Templestowe was orchard country, and orcharding reached its peak in the 1920s and 1930s. Since 2021, as at September 2026, we've completed 4 full roof restorations and 2 roof repairs in Templestowe.

From the 1960s, houses replaced the orchards. Project builders put up display homes in the then fashionable light-coloured brick, on streets laid out to follow the hills. Some of those display homes now make up a heritage precinct of their own.

Hills and big gums bring their own problems: leaves in the valleys, moss on shady faces, and roofs that are hard to see from the street, so faults go unnoticed. Parts of Templestowe also sit in a Bushfire Management Overlay, which makes clear gutters matter even more.

On 1960s and 70s homes among the hills and gums, these are the usual faults:

• Concrete tiles that have lost their coating and hold moss on the shady side

• Ridge pointing cracked and falling out after 50-odd years

• Valleys and gutters packed with gum leaves and bark

• Tiles cracked by falling branches

• Leaks around skylights, flues and later extensions

• Gutters sagging where water has sat in them for years

Restorations have been most of my Templestowe work, because by this age the whole roof tends to need attention at once.
