Glen Waverley is one of the south-east's most sought-after suburbs, and its roofs tell the story of how it grew. A lot of the original homes went up in the post-war years as brick-veneer houses with concrete or terracotta tile. Over the last couple of decades plenty have been extended or rebuilt into bigger double-storey homes, many of them finished in Colorbond. That means two very different roofs to look after around here, and I do both.

The older tile roofs usually need the same thing by now: the ridge-cap pointing has perished and the tile coating has faded and chalked. The Colorbond roofs, especially the ones coated years ago, break down and start to chalk and rust around the fixings. On the older tile homes around Glen Waverley:
